What to Pack for a Zanzibar Holiday

Dreaming of a trip to Zanzibar but unsure of what to pack? The Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean is made up of many small islands as well as two large ones called Unguja and Pemba. Everything about this Island is appealing, from the sandy beaches to the delectable seafood, the culture to the history, and the classic bars to the world-class accommodations. With its postcard-perfect beaches, swaying palm trees, and turquoise waters, Zanzibar Island is ideal for a laidback holiday and here’s a quick guide on what to pack for a Zanzibar holiday.

What to pack for Zanzibar

Passport and vaccination cards

First things first — ensure your passport and vaccination cards are up to date and packed in your carry-on for ease of access. We recommend making copies of all your important documents. You never know when you’ll need them.

Pack a waterproof bag

Whether you’re spending the day at the beach or going on an adventure, a waterproof bag will keep your belongings dry. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, so you’ll have to figure out which one is right for you.

Sunglasses

Remember your sunglasses when packing for Zanzibar! They do more than just shield your eyes from the sun. Sunglasses are also helpful in protecting your eyes from dirt, sand, and saltwater.

Sunscreen

Zanzibar gets hot, owing largely to the African sun! Don’t jeopardize the health of your skin by foregoing sunscreen. Remember, you’ll need to reapply sunscreen several times per day, especially if you intend to swim.

What to pack for Zanzibar

Underwater Camera

The abundance of sea life is one of the best aspects of island life. The unique and colourful fish off the coast will astound you, and the best way to capture such a wonderful memory is with an underwater camera. Holidaying with an underwater camera can be a lot of fun. It’s an excellent way to document your trip and keep the memories for years to come.

Casual Wear

Because Zanzibar is a traditional country, most of the streets require proper attire; however, the beaches allow for casual wear. If you’re going to the beaches during the day and intending to spend your days walking on the sand barefoot on the beach then pack t-shirts, shorts, dresses, and anything lightweight and comfortable.

Light rain jacket

If you’re visiting Zanzibar during the rainy seasons (March to May and November to December), be sure to pack a light rain jacket.

Shoes & sandals

The island offers the opportunity to explore two major areas: the vibrant streets and the sandy beaches. You must be well prepared for both occasions, which is why we recommend packing a good pair of shoes as well as a pair of flip-flops for your holiday trip to Zanzibar. You can wear shoes in the evenings or during the day while exploring the market, streets, and other locations.

Universal Adapter

A universal adapter will convert your adapter to the one on the wall, eliminating the need for anything else. They are essential for international travellers.
